On 28 jul 012, I received a call from an executive of dining plus 300) who offered to me a discount card that would give me 20% discount on all purchases that I make and also a couple of other benefits such as cash back on hotel bills, free coupons etc. The executive clearly and unambiguously told me that the card will be given to me for free and on the basis of my track record of credit card usage. Then he told me that he was connecting me to the card issuing bank (ICICI)and requested me to follow the ivr instructions. This involved entering my credit card details and generating a one time password which in turn was keyed in when he called again. At no point of time during this entire process, which took nearly 0-30 mins., DID the executive inform me that money was being charged on my credit card. He misled me into thinking that all these details were only for 'verification purpose'. It was only after the entire transaction was over, DID he tell me that rs 99/- Was charged to my ICICI credit card and these were "one time government charges". I immediately asked him to cancel the transaction because I was cheated into making the payment. But he said that money has already been received and therefore I have no choice but to accept the card. I kept receiving calls from the personnel (vijay, praval kumar) of dining plus 300, 800, 18001029991)on 28 and 29 jul, harassing me to confirm my postal address for sending the card, in spite of telling them I am not interested in the card and nor am I going to take the delivery of it. The executives kept telling me that the transaction will not be cancelled as I have generated and entered the password (iotp) myself--completely sidestepping the issue of misleading me into making the payment. He even mocked me saying that as an "educated customer" I should have known that "nothing comes free in india" and that they have charged "only 499" whereas they could have swindled more if they "really wanted". Every word of what I have written here will be corroborated by voice records, if dining plus maintains any such thing. I repeat that I am not going to take the delivery of the card. I have requested ICICI bank to not approve the transaction. I have also sent a message to dining plus (through their 'contact' link on their website) to cancel the transaction and return the payment.
